Obituary for Leroy James Peterson Leroy James Peterson, 84, of Oskaloosa passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Mahaska Healthcare Partnership. Leroy James Peterson, son of Edward and May (Rudd) Peterson, was born July 17, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating high school in Minneapolis in 1952, he served in country in the United States Navy as a radioman for three years.

After his service he attended the Minneapolis Business School and graduated in 1957 with a degree in Court Reporting. His 40 year career was spent working in district court in Mahaska and surrounding counties. It was active in the Iowa Court Reporters Association and served on the Oskaloosa City Council from 1982 to 1990.

Leroy was a member of the First Christian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. His family includes his wife, Carol Stanley Peterson of Oskaloosa; daughter, Jennifer Peterson of Chicago, IL; sisters: Doris Peterson and Carmen (Hugo) Treptau, both of Minneapolis, MN; a sister-in-law, Joyce (Roger) Slykhuis of Newton, IA and many nieces and nephews. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rodger Peterson.

Memorial services for Leroy will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Molly Goodrich officiating. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church, Oskaloosa Habitat for Humanity or another charity of the donor’s choice. After the service the family wishes to invite you to share in refreshments at the First Christian Church.
