Obituary for Les Barth Kaleva – On July 26, 2018, Leslie Edward Barth, 63, passed away at his home in Kaleva, MI. Les–originally from Muskegon, MI–was born on May 6, 1955 to the late Edward Daniel and June Loraine (Wilson) Barth. Shortly after he turned eighteen, Les enlisted in the United States Army.

From 1972 to 1975, Les honorably served his country as a lineman, even spending time in Korea. After returning to the United States, Les built many beautiful homes as a contractor. Later in life, he spent much of his time taking care of his beloved cat, Birdie, and his late mother in Traverse City, where he was also a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

In his spare time, Les enjoyed cooking and making art–both painting and doing leatherwork. He appreciated music, which included listening to music, attending concerts, and playing his guitar. Les also had a passion for helping military veterans–a duty he felt because of his own service in the United States Army.

Although, nothing surpassed his love of motorcycles; Les was always happiest on his Harleys. Les was preceded in death by his father, whom he loved; his mother, whom he adored; as well as brother, and best friend Daniel. Les will be dearly missed by his living siblings: Mary Forguson of Dallas, TX; Peggy (Michael) Galliher of Castle Rock, CO; Susan (Jeffrey) of Grand Rapids, MI; David Barth of Traverse City, MI; and Andrew (Daisy) Barth of Rapid City, SD; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition, he is survived by his great aunt Flo Anderson of Onekama, MI; his uncle Gordon (Freida) Wilson of Bear Lake, MI; and long time friend Jerryme Englund of Grant, MI. The family will hold a private graveside service to honor Les at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, where he will receive the rites of committal from the Catholic Church, full military honors from the United States Army, the VFW Post #2780, and the American Legion Post #35. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Disabled American Veterans (2434 Sybrant Rd, Traverse City, MI 49684).
