Obituary for Lewis Moore Lewis Clark Moore was born in Coalmont, Colorado on Dec. 10, 1932. His father ran the coal mine in Coalmont, a small mining town in North Park.

Lew was born in a heat-less room called the refrigerator, and as fate would have it, he was born on the same day his grandmother died in Connecticut. He was the youngest of five and faced the bossing and teasing pains accompanied by being such. Lew attended school in Coalmont through eighth grade, and was proud, one year, to be the smartest boy in the school.

That was the year the school had only one male pupil. As a child, he spent a lot of time alone, amusing himself building hills and setting up and knocking down toy soldiers. He learned to ski with his siblings, using home-made ski hills and tow ropes.

He spent one summer building muscles bucking bales on his sister and brother in law’s ranch in Walden. Lew’s mother played the piano by ear and the family spent a lot of time singing. The family was fun-loving, caring, and always up for a good time.

It’s no wonder music and laughter were a staple in Lew’s life. When Lew was a freshman in high school, his family moved to Fort Collins , which was quite a change for a boy from a remote area. He graduated from Fort Collins high school in 1951, spent one year at Colo.

Agriculture College, and then joined the Air Force. During his four years in the Air Force, he was based at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois and Landstuhl Air Force Base in Germany. In 1957, he returned to Fort Collins, continuing his education, and graduating from Colorado State University in1959 with a degree in business.

He married Barbara Bundy in Sterling, Colorado on March 15, 1959. They met on a blind date arranged by mutual friends. When he picked Barbara up at the dorm she told him he could back out of the date, so, in true Lew fashion, he backed out of the door.

He wrote a poem about that first date and continued to write her poems until he was certain he had won her over. After graduation,Lew found his first job in Denver, and shortly thereafter, Barbara gave birth to their first son, Larry. Soon after, Lew and his brother in law opened a business in Longmont, which was short-lived, so it was back to Denver where their second son, Rick, was born.

Finally, Lew got a job at Hewlett Packard in 1961 and he and Barb got to return to Loveland, where they have lived ever since. In 1964, Third son, Brad, was born, and in 1967 fourth son, Scott, was born. Following his work with Hewlett Packard, Lew spent 17 years as an estimator and office manager for Flatiron Paving, followed by 20 years self-employed, selling promotional advertising products.

Having four sons, and having grown up in a mountain town, Lew enjoyed taking his boys and Barbara (and often extended family) camping and fishing. He created many memories, cooking and singing around the campfire. He worked with the Boy Scouts when Larry and Rick were involved.

Lew joined the First United Methodist Church in the early 1960’s, and sang in the church choir for over50 years. He loved to sing and perform. In 1989, he began his theatre hobby, performing at Berthoud’s Wayside Inn Dinner Theater in a production of “Mame”.

Lew continued his acting in many productions at Longmont’s Jesters Dinner Theatre, his favorite role was Mayor Shinn in “The Music Man”. Lew was an active member of the Loveland Rotary Club, and really enjoyed the friendship and fellowship with the members of the club. He delivered Kidspak until he was no longer able, so handed off that privilege to son, Brad.

Lew loved this country, was passionate about politics, and made good use of the American flag. He was involved in forming the Loveland Baseball Association, and was instrumental with a group of people in building the fields at 1st and Taft. He spent many hours there watching his sons play baseball.

He also spent many hours watching his sons (and then his grandkids) play football, basketball, baseball, hockey and gymnastics. Lew was an avid CSU sports fan since the early 1950’s when his dad would listen to the games on the radio. He had season tickets to the football games for over 50 years.

Lew enjoyed bowling in leagues for many years, and especially enjoyed bowling with his brother and sister and their spouses in a senior league. He was known for his corny puns, most of which were repeated on a regular basis. He would call his sons, their wives, and their children on their birthdays to sing “Happy Birthday” in his best Bing Crosby croon.

Lew never lost his sense of humor and love for performing. In March, his final outing was to a Rotary meeting where he gave the invocation and read “An Irish Blessing” in an Irish brogue. And even at the end, he kept his doctors, nurses, friends and family laughing.

He also never stopped loving his family, and especially Barbara, who would bring a spark to his eye when she entered the room. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Lewis Moore please visit our Sympathy Store. Upcoming Events Memorial 2018 APR 16.
