Lillian M. Skates passed away Thursday evening in a local hospital. She was born in Butte on Saturday, November 17, 1928 to Charles and Agnes (Carlson) Sandbloom. She attended local schools including Butte High School where she was a member of the Venture Club and participated in the Butte High Drill Team.

She married Richard “Dick” Skates in Butte on June 24, 1956 and together they made their home here in Butte. Lil worked at New York Life for two years then at Safeway for another 19 years before taking a position with KBOW. She worked in traffic for many years then took a position in sales where she excelled for ten years until her retirement.

Lil and Dick enjoyed their retirement years and stayed busy in many community activities. She is survived by her husband Richard “Dick” Skates, and son Randy Skates both of Butte, nieces and nephews: Karlene and Craig Beaumont of Pullman, Washington, Marlene and Mike Tocher of Butte and their sons Brian, Brad and Neil, Erin and Jeremy Cassell and their daughters Mia and Malia and Erica and Adam Schuyler and their children Zach, Noelle and Corinne. Also surviving are several Skates relatives in Olympia, Washington.
