Lisa Waldroop of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma January 6, 1958 – March 27, 2019 Services honoring and remembering Amy Lisa Waldrop will be held 11 AM Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore. Interment will follow in Graham Cemetery in Pryor. Lisa passed away Wednesday, March 27th, 2019 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 61.

Born January 6, 1958 in Tulsa, Lisa was the daughter of Jay T. and Juna Mae (Weigart) Phillips. Lisa moved to Claremore at the age of 3 where she grew up 3 miles east of town on the Running Calf Ranch. She grew up showing quarter horses competitively and was a member of Clem’s Cowpokes, a group of children that square danced on horseback.

While in school, Lisa was involved in the 4-H club and the Select Choir. She graduated with honors from Claremore High School with the Class of 1976. Following high school, she attended Harding University where she studied Dietetics.

She was involved with the Ju-Go-Ju club and sang in the Harding Acapella Choir, in which she traveled to eleven different countries. Lisa earned graduate degrees from Oklahoma State University, New Mexico State University, and the University of California Berkley, where she completed a Doctorate degree in Public Health. She pursued a career as a dietician with Indian Health, the State of Oklahoma, and various other healthcare organizations throughout eastern Oklahoma.

Lisa was always concerned about the elderly and focused on improving their quality of life through nutrition. Lisa served as Miss Cherokee Nation in 1981, the goodwill ambassador for the state of Oklahoma and the Cherokee Nation, and was appointed by the governor to be a representative at the festivities surrounding the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Dianna. She was received at Buckingham Palace to present her gifts to the royal couple.

Lisa married Micha Waldroop August 9, 2003 at the Church of Christ in Tahlequah. They spent almost 16 years together living in Broken Arrow. A spiritual person, Lisa was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

She participated in mission work, the women’s prison ministry, and always ministered to others through her beautiful voice. Lisa was very caring and generous person. You couldn’t ever go to her house without receiving a gift.

She had a knack for picking out greeting cards and she loved celebrating all holidays. Lisa loved socializing, laughing, and always making people feel better about themselves. Her “group hugs” will be dearly missed by a host of friends and family members that loved her.

Surviving family members include her husband Micah Waldroop; her mother, Juna Mae Phillips; her siblings Kim Phillips Gardner and Jay Buffington Phillips; her nieces: Nicole Mitchell, Robyn Waldroop, Lucia Waldroop, Julianne Waldroop; her nephew, Cody Buffington Phillips; and her grand nieces: Aubrey and Lauryn Mitchell. Lisa was preceded in death by her father; her sister, Benae Phillips; and her grandparents.
