Lois’ Obituary Lois Elaine (McClain) Hines, age 89, of Barryton, passed peacefully Friday, January 11, 2019 at McLaren Central Michigan in Mt Pleasant. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 12:00 PM (noon) at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with her brothers, Dallas and Craig McClain, officiating. Family will be greeting friends one hour prior to the service, 11 AM until 12 PM at the funeral home.

Lois was born April 21, 1929 in Fenton, Michigan, the daughter of George Sr. and Inola “Peggy” (Pridgeon) McClain. She graduated from Sherman Township Agricultural High School in Weidman in 1947 as the class valedictorian. She married Leland “Bud” Hines on November 9, 1947.

Along with raising 5 daughters, Lois worked as a secretary at McClain Chevrolet, in the library at Chippewa Hills schools and as a courier for the MOISD. She might also be remembered as the candy story lady at Barryton Elementary long ago. Lois was kind-hearted and loved helping others in the community.

She was active in the Barryton United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered as a Rocking Chair Reader for elementary children. Lois enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, and reading. She began flying with her father at a young age and was only a few hours short of earning her pilot’s license.

She was a fantastic cook and her family will miss her baked Rice Krispie chicken and homemade noodles. She was famous for her orange jello salad! Lois was an accomplished quilter and seamstress, making quilts for her family as well as many lap robes and layettes for charity.

She was also competitive (beating her grandchildren in board games every chance she got) and had an adventurous spirit. Later in life, she enjoyed spending winters in Oklahoma where she became involved in church activities, developed many friendships, and was a fan at grandchildren’s sporting events. Lois is survived by her daughters: Kathy (Alan) Patterson of Georgia, Paula (Harvey) Gullion of Oklahoma City, OK, Brenda (Richard) Donley of Lake Isabella, Ronda (Tony) Snyder of Remus, Lisa (Brent) Frank of Tushka, OK; 11 grandchildren: Darin Cooper, Dawn (Kevin) Turner, Jennifer Archer (Cindy Moore), Zachary (Dana) Hatfield, Maegan (Kyle) Eldred, Casey (Cade) Schafer, Derek (Adrienne) Snyder, Abby (Chris) Hegyi, Branigan Taylor, Tyler Frank, and Takota Frank; 4 step-grandchildren: Dennis (Cindy) Gullion, Shanda Gullion, Kim (Brian) Johnson, Scot Donley; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Dallas (Bev) McClain and Craig (Sharon) McClain and many extended family and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leland “Bud”; and two brothers: George Jr. and infant brother, Dean. Memorials may be made, in honor of Lois, to Faith (Barryton) United Methodist Church.
