Gracefully and peacefully on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, Mrs. Loretta E. (Granda) Curley, 91, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed into Eternal Life in the care of Phoebe Allentown Health Care Center following an illness. Born January 14, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter to the late Stanley and Helen (Kawaleski) Granda. Educated in the city schools, she attended the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.
Loretta was a talented and passionate seamstress by trade. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Curley worked for over forty years in the local garment industry for the former Empire Dress Company of Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, having previously been a life member of the former Holy Trinity Lithuanian Roman Catholic Church prior to its closure.
She also held membership in the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Loretta is remembered by those who knew and loved her as being the life of any party or family gathering. She was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her adoring family, who loved the music of Ella Fitzgerald in her spare time.
Some of her favorite annual traditions she passed on to her children were making homemade kielbosi and baking anise Christmas cookies over the years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Michael T. Curley in 1996. At the time of his passing, the couple shared 48 years of married life together.
Also preceding her were her son, Michael C. Curley in 2001; Brothers and a sister, Mr. Stanley Granda Jr., Mrs. Florence Kaminski and Mr. Charles Granda. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Mrs. Patricia (Tish) Curley-Hoffman and her husband Joseph of Harveys Lake; Ms. Donna Cox of Bethlehem and Miss Jackie Curley and her fiancee, Miss Jennifer Glose of Allentown; Loretta’s most prized treasures, her grandchildren, including Suzanne Caravaggio, Chris Peters, Elizabeth Cox, John Cox, Olympia Curley-Katrishen and Jacques Curley-Katrishen; Seven Great-grandchildren; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Curley will be conducted on Saturday, November 3rd at 12:30 p.m. from the Wilkes-Barre Heights location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 281 East Northampton Street.
The Reverend Mr. Florian John Gyza, permanent deacon to Saint Faustina’s Parish, Nanticoke and personal family friend, will serve as celebrant and homilist. Relatives and friends may join Mrs. Curley’s family for visitation and remembrances Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.
