Obituary for Lorraine E. Smithling Lorraine E. Smithling, 77, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with her family by her side. She was born on July 30, 1940, in Utica, the daughter of Joseph and Louella (Ingersoll) Jones. On November 26, 1960, Lorraine married Ralph C. Smithling, Jr

They shared a blessed union of over 46 years prior to his passing on May 3, 2007. Lorraine was a beloved mother and grandmother whose family was most important to her. She was a gentle woman, in love with her savior Jesus Christ and enjoyed singing at Westminster Presbyterian Church and with The Valley Voices.

Shopping and eating out, together with her husband, was her favorite past time. Lorraine was a long time member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Utica. She is survived by her children, Gail (Doug) VanHatten, Utica, Patricia (John) Bullen, Canastota and Mark (Lisa) Smithling, Frankfort; grandchildren, Ashley, Alicia, Miranda, Jacob, Stephanie, Cindy, Anna and Teddy; siblings, Dorine Jenkins, Frankfort, William (Beverly) Jones, Frankfort and Paul (Sylvia) Jones, SC; sister-in-law, Lois Jones; several nieces, nephews and cousins along with close friend, Martha Organisciak, Frankfort.

Lorraine was predeceased by her brothers, Richard, Robert and Merrill. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 4-6 p.m. at Surridge & Roberts Funeral Home, 470 French Rd. , Utica.

Funeral services will commence immediately following visitation at 6 p.m. Interment will be in Frankfort Center Cemetery. Remembrances in Lorraine’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www. stjude.org).
