She passed away on February 6, 2019 after a long full life, at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 6 months, 1 day. She attended and graduated as Valedictorian of St. Stephen’s Parochial School and then graduated with honors from Lawrence High School with the class of 1944.

She was kind of a tom-boy and loved to help her dad on the farm until she started to teach the lower grades at St. Stephen’s School in 1947. At age 4, she was stricken with infantile paralysis (polio) which left her handicapped. But this proves to be a challenge to “do the best you can with what you’ve got”.

At age 11, she had surgery and had her leg in a cast. It was hard to get around, and she spent many hours at the piano and an old organ teaching herself to play. This talent was a great asset when she taught school and played for the choir.

In 1950, she married Leonard Rempe and they lived on a farm by Superior. She loved the farm and worked hard at being a good farmer’s wife. She raised lots of chickens and had a huge garden.

She helped at running their Grade A milking business along with the children as they grew up enough to also help. The children were Eugene, Roy, Ronald, James and Janice. Eugene died at the age of 2 as a result of a farm accident, but she supported the others in their FFA, 4-H and church activities.

She was very active in St. Joseph’s church, serving all offices of Altar Society, DCCW, teaching CCD for many years, laundering altar linens and playing the organ and directing the choir. She worked tirelessly at spring salad luncheon. She also helped in the canteen at the blood mobile.

She received the Nebraska Assisted Living Resident of the Year Award. She loved to sew and spent many hours sewing western shirts and other clothes for their children and grandchildren. She also helped mend and sew new articles for the hospital in addition to working at the gift shop and Nifty Thrifty.

Leonard and Lorraine left the farm in 1987 and moved to a home in Superior. They enjoyed traveling and playing cards with neighbors and Valley Home Club. As their health declined, they moved to an assisted living facility, Kingswood Court in Superior, where she resided until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard on April 29, 2016; son Eugene, brothers Alfred Brockman and Norbert (Evelyn) Brockman; sisters Verena Brockman, Emma (Henry) Denning, Hilda (George) Kimminau, Norma (Frank) Kimminau, Eleanor (George) Schutte, and Irene (Clarence) Schutte; sister-in-law Margaret Brockman.
