Louise Sudlow Hoyert, long-time PG County junior high or middle-school teacher, passed away in her sleep at the hospital on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Louise was born in her grandmother’s house in Columbia, MO on November 17, 1929. The family followed her father around the Mississippi River Valley as he worked on levee projects throughout the Great Depression.

They lived in 13 different towns before moving to Maryland in 1939. Louise moved to College Park after her marriage in 1955 and remained there until her death. She valued education and learning and dedicated herself to both.

She graduated with a BS and a MS in Education from the University of Maryland and worked for 23 years as a social studies teacher in the Prince George’s County Schools until her retirement from Nicholas Orem Middle School in 1990. She was a voracious reader and could sometimes finish a half-dozen books per day. She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church, belonged to the University United Methodist Church, and taught Sunday School classes for over 60 years.

She spent her retirement reading, serving as a docent at the Riversdale House Museum, and spoiling her grandchildren.
