Obituary for Lucille McCrimmon Harris On Sunday, January 6, 2019, the Lord reached down from Heaven and called another of His children home to eternal reward. Lucille McCrimmon Harris, daughter of the late Robert and Leslie Faulk McCrimmon, was born May 3, 1932, in Vass, North Carolina. Educated in North Carolina public schools, Lucille graduated from Pinckney High School in Cathage, North Carolina, and went on to matriculate at Durham Business College, Durham, North Carolina.
Upon completion of her education, she accepted employment with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and began her Civil Service career. In 1990, after thirty years’ service, she retired in Columbia, South Carolina. Lucille began her faith walk at an early age, joining Oak Ridge AME Zion Church, where she learned of the Lord and laid the foundation for her lifelong faithfulness.
After relocating to Columbia during the late 1960s, Lucille joined Reid Chapel AME Church, where she devoted her time to various auxiliaries. Lucille met and married the love of her life, the late Jessie Harris of Greenwood, South Carolina, in 1964. She often spoke of him as a “great husband and provider,” who gave her the gift of a precious son.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Almeta McCrimmon-Johnson; three brothers: Eddie W. McCrimmon, Robert McCrimmon, Jr., and Raymond McLeod; and four nephews: Alton J. McCrimmon, Alvin J. McCrimmon, Kevin Todd, and Rodney McCrimmon. She leaves to cherish precious memories her son, Eric Harris, of the home; a granddaughter, Sanaa Harris; a sister-in-law, Mary F. McCrimmon, of Vass, North Carolina; nine nieces: Josephine (John) McCrimmon-Leggett, Marketia McCrimmon, Jascline Batiste, Doris Oglie, Denise McCrimmon, Marcia M. Wynn, Barbara Williams-Wimmes, Julia Williams-Wardlaw, and Deborah Vazsquez; four nephews: E. Maurice McCrimmon, Alton J. McCrimmon, Harvey McLeod, and Raymond McLeod, Jr.; twenty grand nieces and nephews; twenty great-grand nieces and nephews; one great-great-grandnephew; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her loving presence.
