Maceo C. Raysor August 16, 1932 – March 17, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook On August 16, 1932, Maceo C. Raysor Sr. was born in Harlem Hospital, Harlem New York. He was a vibrant member of the community for years. His parents Mr. James and Mrs. Alberta Fair Raysor preceded him in death as did seven of Maceo Sr.’s eight siblings.
Allen, Albert Raysor, Walker Raysor, Dorothy Raysor-Coates, Wallace Raysor, Joseph Raysor, and Donald Raysor transitioned prior to their brother. Catherine Sims is the only living sibling. He like his brothers were known for their whistle, his bop walks up the Hill from the 145th train station and his hats.
Maceo C. Raysor Sr. was also known in the Harlem community of Sugar Hill as a “bronze Frank Sinatra” for his vocal stylings. His most recent performance was at Carnegie Hall. Maceo C. Raysor, Sr. in the early years was viewed as the model family like the “Black Ozzie & Harriet” of the neighborhood.
He exposed his children to Picasso, Baldwin, played the piano like an accomplished virtuoso without reading a note and sang like Frank Sinatra. He was a performer and charmer and was funny with his imitations. In addition to him being a talented singer, Maceo C. Raysor was a gifted and talent visual artists as well and was a valued member on the creative team that created the artwork for the US Postal Stamps.
A survivor Maceo C. Raysor Sr. was able to fend off some of the temptations of life. Maceo C. Raysor Sr. was called Uncle Mace, Macey, Mack affectionately by family and close friends. He lived a rich life that included his love of travel and art, literature and tennis.
A gifted artist Macey was ahead of his time. He was Sophisticated and Smooth, well dressed with those debonair hats. He served in the Air Force 1949 to 1954.
He had been stationed in Texas until he traveled to Japan and Korea. He retired a Postal Supervisor with numerous Coworkers. Only a few were fortunate to call him dad.
Maceo C. Raysor Jr., Lauren P. Raysor, Charlene Motz and Ronald Motz. Charlene, his daughter, shared his love of travel and Jamaica. She spent time with him on his recent visit to the Caribbean Island as one of his last request.
Lauren shared his love of psychology, art and tennis. His namesake, Maceo C. Jr. enjoyed just spending time reminiscing. Ronnie enjoyed the time he spent with Mace when he visited his family and Ronnie fixed his favorite food.
Each sibling represented a special part of his life and held a special place in his Heart. He is survived and mourned by widow Mrs. Ingrid Raysor who was his love and whom he was married to for 37 years. They enjoyed their lives together living and traveling throughout the United States and abroad.
There are scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and a Host of friends and loved ones that will mourn Maceo C. Raysor Sr. Maceo C. Raysor, Sr. will be missed. Any omissions were not intentional and we ask your understanding and forgiveness at this time of the family’s bereavement. Maceo C. Raysor, Sr. is survived by his loving wife Ingrid Motz Raysor and his children Ronald Motz, Maceo C. Raysor, Jr. and Charlene Motz and Lauren P. Raysor.
He had 8 brothers and sisters: Allen, Albert Raysor, Walker Raysor, Wallace Raysor Joseph Raysor, Donald Raysor, Dorothy Raysor Coates and his only living sibling Catherine Sims. He is also survived by several Daughter in Laws: Patricia Motz and Mary Raysor. He had many nieces and nephews Alvin, Carmen, Donald and Eric Raysor(deceased), Jay Raysor, Vonnie, Donna and Pepe, Lawrence(deceased), Phyllis(deceased) and Charles Coates(deceased) and Walker and Joseph Coates; Charlene and Valerie.
He had many grandchildren: Anthony and Jonathon Raysor, Amanda Raysor Piles; Tawana Blount and Terry Blount, Shawnetta McCollum, Nathaniel Frasier and Lisa Meekins and Jr. Meekins. And numerous great grandchildren.
