Madelyn Alice Murphy July 17, 1935 – January 05, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Upload Photo| View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Madelyn Alice Rihn Murphy was called to meet Our Lord on Saturday, Jan 05, 2019, at the age of 83. Madelyn was born July 17, 1935, in Hondo, Texas, to Bernard and Mary (Hutzler) Rihn. She was from a large family of 12 children, 9 girls and 3 boys, including her identical twin sister, Adelyn.

Madelyn, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was an amazing woman, and it was no secret that she loved her family deeply. Madelyn’s faith ran strong, as it showed in her dedication to St. Luke’s Catholic Church, being a member since 1962. Madelyn also worked in and managed the St. Luke school cafeteria, as well as, played on the women’s softball team.

Her passions included taking care of her yard and tending to her poinsettias, and each New Year, baking up some of her “New Year Bread” to give away to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Clayton Murphy (whom she married on Aug 8, 1954 in La Coste, Texas), her parents; her twin sister Adelyn Bippert; sisters, Marcella Rihn and Inez Harless; brothers, Jerome Rihn, Denis Rihn and Anthony Rihn; and great-grandson Clayton Murphy. Madelyn is survived by her three children, Dwayne (Diane), Douglas (Jayme), and Gwendolyn; six grandchildren, Devin (Lisa) Murphy, April Dixon, Derek Murphy, Sara Murphy, Dustin Murphy, Sean Callahan (Denise); and, four great-grandchildren, Addison Dixon, Tristan Dixon, Sebastian Murphy and Isabella Murphy.

Also surviving her are her sisters, Anna Mae Hitzfelder, Josephine Blume, Eva Ruffin, Mary Catherine Tschirhart, and Barbara (Robert) Hargroder; sister-in-law, Joyce Rihn; brother-in-law Vernor Bippert; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ruben and Patricia Koehler; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services as follows: Wednesday – January 16, 2019: Visitation: 5-7pm at St. Luke Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou, San Antonio, Texas 78228 with a rosary being recited at 7pm. Thursday – January 17, 2019: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8:30am at St. Luke Catholic Church…….

Graveside services 10:00am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery following 8:30 Mass. ***Funeral services will be led by police escort in procession*** A reception will be held at the St. Luke Catholic Church, Parish Hall immediately following interment.
