NILES – Marcella A. Burgess 92, passed away on Sunday morning March 3, 2019 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. She was born in Warren, Ohio on June 16, 1926 a daughter of Cyril Joseph and Mary Isabel (Lally) Eddy. Marcella was a 1944 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a 1947 graduate of the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

She worked for over 30 years as a Industrial Nurse at Republic Steel Niles Door Plant. For many years she volunteered at the City of Niles Health Department and local schools. She was a member of St. Stephen Church and the Niles Historical Society where she was also a docent.

During America’s bicentennial in 1976, she portrayed Mary Todd Lincoln for the Niles Historical Society’s White House Ladies Inaugural Gowns and traveled to the White House and the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Marcella was an avid reader and enjoyed tennis, skiing, and playing bridge. She cherished the time spent with family on vacations and visiting the beaches.

Marcella is survived by three children, Patricia (James) Fisher of Niles, Peter (Linda) Burgess of Port Charlotte, Florida, Charles William “Charlie” (Lisa) Burgess of Niles; eight grandchildren, Monica Fisher, Margot Fisher, Jessica (Dan) Sandy, Christine Burgess, Kevin Burgess, Nick Burgess, Charlie Burgess III, Jack Burgess; great granddaughter, Guinevere Rose Garver. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles William “Bill” Burgess whom she married on August 29, 1953 and who died on January 21, 2006 and a brother, Dr. Bernard Cullen Eddy. Calling Hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where the St. Stephen Bereavement Ministry will have a 6:30 p.m. prayer service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday March 6, 2019 at St. Stephen Church. The Rev. James Korda will be the celebrant.
