Margaret D. Ehlen, 87, of Salem, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Froedtert Hospital South in Kenosha. Born in Brighton on August 15, 1930, she was the daughter of Frank W. and Florence (nee Epping) Lohaus. She spent her early life in Brighton.

In 1941 she was afflicted with polio and attended Orthopedic School in Kenosha before returning and graduating from Wilmot High School, class of 1949. George preceded her in death on January 23, 2003. Marge worked as a telephone operator in the Wilmot/Wheatland area and then went to Pickard China where she worked as a Quality Control Inspector. She was a member of St. Alphonsus, later going to Holy Cross and then returned to St. Alphonsus.

She enjoyed doing family history and genealogy, sewing, making floral displays and Faberge eggs. She spent many hours knitting & crocheting socks and hats during World War II. She loved her sweets, especially peanut butter M & M’s, chocolate chip cookies, and always made truffles at Christmas time.

Her favorite colors were blue and lavender. Marge is survived by her children, Thomas (Marie Bosetti) Ehlen and Ann (Douglas) Hughes; grandchildren, David & Amy Hughes along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Mary (Paul) Ehlen, Agnes (Fred) Ehlen and Frank H. Lohaus.

The family would like to thank the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department, Salem Lakes Fire & Rescue, Dr. Habel, Dr. Sta Romana, Kindred Home Helpers and Burlington Home Helpers for their assistance, care and compassion. Memorial contributions may be made to SPIRIT (Post Polio Syndrome) or American Lung Association-Wisconsin. Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
