Margaret Ella Bugg Chenoweth, 87, of Macomb passed away at 5:59 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at her residence. She was born on November 16, 1931 at the St. Francis Hospital in Macomb to Roscoe William and Margaret Ulm Bugg. She married George Edward Chenoweth on February 4, 1950 in Macomb.

He passed away on June 4, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents; one son, David; one brother Frank and two sisters, Elizabeth and Joann. Ella is survived by three daughters, Cathy (Christopher) Laughery of Evergreen,Colorado Chris (Mick) Cruse of Normal, Illinois and Connie (David) Garner of Macomb; five grandchildren, Tanya (Joshua) Serena, Michael (Sheena) Morgan, Eric David (Natalie) Chenoweth, Tracy (Wyatt) Houtz and Adam (Sara) Chenoweth; eight great-grandchildren, Zoraida, Marshall, Augustine, Pascal, Benjamin, Thomas, Anastasia and Annalie and one sister, Betsy (Mike) Kugler of Adair.

Ella graduated from Macomb High School in 1949 and immediately began a job at the Citizens National Bank where she worked for 3 years. She also worked at Mounce Motors as a bookkeeper, McDonough County Farm Bureau, WIU in the Math Department and then the Speech and Hearing Communications Department for eight years. In 1978 she became the office manager at Chenoweth Implement Co., Inc until July, 1997 when she retired.

While her children were young she was a girl scout leader and served on the GSA Macomb Board for three years; coached the first YMCA girls softball starting with only two teams. She also volunteered as a bookkeeper for Meals on Wheels program through the First Presbyterian Church for five years and MDH Auxiliary for three years. Ella was a member of Macomb Women’s Bowling association for 30 years and served two terms as President of the Friday Night League; a member of the WIU Women’s Golf League for four years; member of the Macomb Grandmother’s Club for ten years serving terms as secretary-treasurer, Vice-President and President; member of Macomb Country Club and First Presbyterian Church in Macomb where she and George were married.

Sometimes she liked to write little rhymes and couldn’t resist one last time. She was very happy as George’s wife and she loved her family and her life. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb with Reverend Erin Marth officiating.

Memorials may be made to MDH Hospice or Wesley Rehab. Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb is in charge of arrangements.
