Margaret was born on December 13, 1928 in Los Angeles, CA, to Alexander C. Nolan and Louise Burch Nolan. They moved back to the family ranch in Three Rivers, TX when she was a young child.

Margaret met C. Pete Bluntzer, of Cuero, at A&I University in Kingsville. The couple married in 1947, and Pete’s coaching career took them to towns all over South Texas. They ultimately settled in Cuero, where their three children, Ann, Tommy, and Rick, grew up.

“Nana” to her 12 grand and great-grandchildren, Margaret made her home in Cuero for 65 years. She was a shining example of kindness, strength, and independence to all who knew her. Margaret was a beloved Cuero Junior High English teacher, and later, an ESL (English as a Second Language) coordinator.

She also served on the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Council, was a member of the St. Mark’s choir, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and involved in the DeWitt County Wildflower Association, DeWitt County Historical Commission, Pilot Club, and DeWitt County Retired Teachers Association. Always available to help her community, Margaret had a true servant’s heart. She delivered communion to those who could not attend church services, and drove friends and neighbors to appointments.

She did not relinquish her car keys until this month, just days before entering hospice care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; her son, Tommy; and her parents. Her surviving family includes Ann and Bruce Evans of Austin, TX and their children, Melissa and Mark Stevens of Austin, and Ellen and Matthew Evans of Dripping Springs, TX; Anna Lisa Tamez of New Braunfels, TX, and her children, Samuel Bluntzer of Fort Worth, TX and Nolan and Katherine Bluntzer of New Braunfels, TX; Rick and Anne Bluntzer of Houston, TX.

Margaret had eight great-grandchildren (and a ninth on the way): Harvey, Katy Ann, Thomas, Pete, Lucy, Eliza, Nora Jane, and Nelson. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 31 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. There will be a reception in the church parish hall after the service.

Pallbearers include V. Bruce Evans, Dr. Matt Evans, Mark Stevens, Nolan Bluntzer, Sam Bluntzer, Dr. Danny Tamez and Harvey Stevens. Honorary Pallbearers include Don DeBerry, Ted Winslow, Pete Martinez, Charlie Arndt, Mark Ley, Tim Ley and Joseph L. Sheppard.
