Margaret Burdine Tripp passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Grayson, GA. Margaret was born on February 11, 1932 and grew up in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee to the late Russell and Lucile Burdine. She is survived by her son Russ and his wife Dana Tripp, grandchildren Brynna and Carlyn Tripp, brother Bob “Boydean” Burdine, sister Annette Green and numerous nieces and nephews.
In the 1950’s, Margaret moved to Atlanta where she worked in the Advertising Department of John Deere and met the love of her life, the late Leo Tripp. Margaret married Leo in 1954. In the early 1960’s the young couple travelled often to Florida where they enjoyed boating, fishing and scuba diving with their friends.
Margaret and Leo’s son, Russ, was born in 1967. Margaret loved God, her church, and her church family, and they loved her back. The family relocated to Gwinnett County in 1969 where they became active members of Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, joining the Harmony Sunday School class where they created cherished friendships with their classmates that lasted the rest of their lives.
Margaret spent her life as a devoted wife and mother, “burning up the roads” – as Leo put it – visiting friends, taking her son to sports practices, and volunteering her time to her church and community. For many years, she taught preschool at several churches, teaching and loving on the children in her community. She loved to cook meals for her friends, family and people in need.
Her home was immaculate. Her manners were impeccable. And she lived her life by a simple principal: Always try to find something to like in everyone you meet.
In the 1990’s Margaret successfully fought a battle with cancer and emerged with a deeper spirituality. In 2004, Margaret welcomed her first grandchild, Brynna, who was followed by her sister, Carlyn, in 2008. She loved her granddaughters dearly and delighted in their activities and accomplishments.
After Leo’s passing in 2016, Margaret missed his companionship dearly. Her family is comforted by the knowledge that they are reunited with healthy, vibrant bodies enjoying their favorite hobbies together for eternity. And if Heaven has roads, she’s burning them up right now.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Russell, Jr, Thomas, Johnny and sister Dadie. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, followed by a funeral service in the church Sanctuary at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Jim Landis officiating.
The church is located at 50 Harmony Grove Rd, Lilburn, GA 30047. In lieu of flowers, that family asks that donations be made in memory of Margaret B. Tripp, to the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry at www. segwinnettcoop.org or 55 Grayson Industrial Parkway, Grayson, GA 30017.
