Elon – Margaret “Marg” Mary Gittler, 64, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 14, 1954 in Stephenson County, Illinois to the late Richard Joseph Sullivan and M. Jeanette “Jan” Sullivan and was the wife to David Charles Gittler of over 40 years, who survives. Marg grew up in Freeport, Illinois where she graduated from Aquin Catholic High School in 1972.

A graduate of Western Illinois University, Marg had a passion for literacy. … Read More » She was a life-long educator with 40 years of teaching that touched the lives of many students across six states. She held titles that included Classroom Teacher, Educational Coordinator for a Residential Treatment Center, Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach.

She enjoyed traveling to new places and relaxing near water. More than anything, Marg loved to spend time with her family. Survivors other than her husband, David Gittler, include her daughters, Annie Coble and husband, Brandon, Emily Cagle and husband, Randy; granddaughters, Emma and Ada Coble; a brother, William “Bill” Sullivan and wife, Mary; sisters, Kathleen “Kathy” Buck and husband, Dana, Loretta Polhill and husband, Mike; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11:00am Monday, June 11, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Rev. Briant Cullinane, O.F.M., Conv. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6pm Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
