Elon – Shelton Wells Poythress, 89, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on July 12, 1929 in Alamance County to the late LeBaron D. Poythress and Martha Adams Poythress and was the husband of 16 years to Sarah Nicks Poythress who survives. Shelton was a retired truck driver for Associated Transport and Star Foods.

Poythress include his children, Keith Poythress, David Poythress and wife, Cindy, Jody P. Stuart and Mark Poythress; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; step children, Susan Hussey and husband, Mike, Brian Kelly and wife, Kristi; 5 step grandchildren; a sister, Irene Qualls and a brother, Eugene Poythress and wife, Eve. Shelton was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Self Poythress who died in 2001; parents; a brother, Frank Poythress and sisters, Helen Horner and Florence Hudson.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Terry Rikard with the entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Monday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
