Margaret McCormack Burr January 28, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Margaret McCormack Burr, 84, died on Monday, January 28, 2019. She was born on May 23, 1934 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia to the late Francis Henry and Margaret Ritchie McCormack. She met and married the love of her life, Raymond Burr, in Wellington, New Zealand in 1956.

They were married 44 years before his death in 2000. Margie loved to travel; from her first trip by ship to the United States, to cross country following her husband in his Coast Guard career, to camping and exploring with Girl Scout troops, and taking her grandsons on adventures from Florida to Canada, Hawaii, England, Scotland, and the National Parks out west. Margie was a school bus driver in Newport News for 34 years.

She touched the lives of many children and was known as “Gram” to many of her grandsons’ friends. Survivors include her five children, Barbara Morotini (Walter), of Evans, GA, Donna Burr and Sharron Burr, both of Newport News, Michael Burr (Sandra) of Williamsburg, and Jolene Meyer (Marc) of Durham, NC; seven grandsons, Marc (Jenny) and Erik (Meghan) Morotini, Brandon, Brian and Benjamin (Kathy) Burr, Jacob and Nicholas Meyer; and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara, and great granddaughter, Allison.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM Friday, February 1, 2019 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
