The world lost its sweetest angel and its number one Brewers fan on May 6th when Margaret “Peg” (Brukardt) Jenkel finally decided that 101 years was enough, and went to be with her beloved husband Ed, and her precious son Todd. Peg was born on January 2, 1917 in Rock, Michigan. Her mother died when Peg was only eight years old.
Peg and her siblings bounced around from big cities to small towns, until she finally landed in the Fox Cities area. In Appleton, she met Edward Jenkel and they married on June 2, 1951. Together they focused all their energy and love on their three very grateful children, Diane, Todd and Tim.
Despite the difficult years during World War II, Peg still managed to enjoy her life during her 20’s. She worked hard, but still found time to enjoy herself with many friends and family. In her 30’s, she married Ed, and together they lovingly raised their kids, and began their extensive traveling.
(They visited all 50 states. ) In their retirement years they spent many winters in Naples, Florida. In Peg’s later years, the cruel monster Alzheimer’s disease began to steal her memory, but it never stole her spirit.
She remained a joy until her last day. Peg is survived by her daughter Diane (son-in-law Joe, and grandkids Dylan and Lindsay, and Lindsay’s husband Zack), son Tim (Beth), and too many nieces and nephews to name, but you know who you are. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Mary Brukardt, her husband Ed, her son Todd, and her sisters Augusta (Boots) and Bonnie, and her brothers Henry (Hank) and Roger.
And again, too many other loved ones to name. A funeral service will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, May 12, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 1 pm until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, and to honor Margaret, any donations will go to the Alzheimer’s Association. Peg’s family would like to thank Mary, Judy and Claudia and the others from Thedacare Hospice, and dedicated people like Brittney and Candice from Prairie Homes. There were many, many loving caregivers at all the places both Peg and Ed stayed in their later years.
These dedicated caregivers are too many to name, but they include Gina, Kiara, Charnell and Katie, to name just a few. We must give a special thank you to Carly. She is a guardian angel who was brought here to earth to love and protect Peg in her final years.
The bond between Carly and Peg was a joy and a blessing to watch. There are no words that can adequately express our gratitude. “Mom, I love you and miss you so much.
The laughter and joy you brought me my whole life will be cherished forever. Although Alzheimer’s robbed you of your memory in your later years, it couldn’t steal your sweet spirit and beautiful smile. I will never forget the many special moments we shared in your final years, even though you didn’t remember, you still knew.
