Margaret Dell “Peggy” Packer Jones passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Rolling Ridge Nursing Center, Newton Grove. A Rosary service will take place Monday, May 7th at 10:30 a.m at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will follow the service. Officiating the service will be Father Kevin Moley.

Committal will take place at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery at 2 p.m. Ms. Peggy is the daughter of the late Swindell Packer and Mary Monk Packer and the wife of the late Joel Jones. She was born on July 3, 1934, baptized July 29, 1934, and confirmed on June 25, 1944. She and Joel Jones married on July 8, 1955 Peggy is a great-great niece of Dr. John Carr Monk, founder of the Catholic Church in Newton Grove.

Peggy and Joel have one daughter, Peggy Jo, who is married to Dale Olson. She has three grandchildren, Taylor, Faith and Joseph Olson and many nieces and nephews she love dearly Her siblings are Mary Frances Jones (deceased), Lewis Edward (Bill) Packer (deceased), infant James Almond Packer(deceased), Catherine Love (Susie) Stewart (deceased), Eleanor Bowen (deceased). Living: Lawrence Thomas (Tommy) Packer & wife Annette of Garner & Elizabeth (Tootsie) Woodruff & husband Jim of Clemson, S.C. & brother-n-law Joe Bowen of Garner.

Affectionately known as “Miss. Peggy”, she attended school at Holy Redeemer Elementary, the church’s parochial elementary school, and later graduated from Newton Grove High School. She helped her husband farm most of her life.

Peggy loved her Catholic faith, her church and her family and many wonderful friends! She was a very active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, serving as president of the Ladies’ Altar Society for a time, as well as teaching catechism classes on Sunday mornings. She was also Director of Religious Education at Our Lady of Guadalupe for over 15 years.

Peggy was passionate about making sure everyone felt welcome at our parish. She always introduced herself to anyone she didn’t know and made people feel very welcome. Another of her ministries was sending cards to anyone who was sick or in the hospital, sympathy cards or to people who just needed to know someone cared.

She would send one card from the Ladies’ Altar Society and another from her family. This ministry continued for many years until she went to Rolling Ridge Nursing Facility. Peggy also would help when needed at her husband Joel’s church (Hopewell United Methodist Church) when she could.

She was a feisty and very special lady who will be dearly missed!
