Born December 22, 1931 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Guy F. and Emily Margaret (King) Chapman. She was raised and received her education in Arkansas City, Kansas, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1949.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Joseph Hinson on May 6, 1950 in Arkansas City. The couple made their home in Winfield where Floyd was a partner in Sweetland Hinson Equipment and Marian worked for the Winfield Daily Courier. Marian retired as Copy Editor for the Winfield Daily Courier in 1989.
Mr. Hinson preceded her in death on March 17, 1979. In 1997, she married Orland Kolling. The couple made their home in Winfield.
Mr. Kolling preceded her in death in 1999. Marian was a member of First Christian Church in Winfield. She was a volunteer for William Newton Hospital and Meals On Wheels, was a Red Hat Lady, and a member of the Holy Name Altar Society.
She enjoyed playing Bridge, Dominoes, and Rummy, doing jigsaw puzzles, collecting owls, gardening, cats, and watching Wheel of Fortune. She especially enjoyed spending time with and playing with her grandchildren. Her family includes her sons, Michael Hinson and wife, Lisa of Wichita; Hal Hinson and wife, Nan of Winfield; Don Hinson and wife, Marilyn of Wichita; Pat Hinson and wife, Diana of Houston, TX; David Hinson and wife, Mary of Phoenix, AZ; Charles Hinson of Wichita; her daughter Marilyn Mainz and husband, Stan of Windsor, CO; her brother Ray Chapman of Panama City Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Justin Hinson and wife, Steffanie of Wichita; Jasie Desta and husband, Abenazher of Sarasota, FL; Susanne Means and husband, Keith of Wichita; Nate Hinson and wife, Kandra of Andover; April Esparza and husband, Mark of Alice, TX; Brian Hinson and wife, Kimber of Seattle, WA; Rachel Mainz of Las Vegas, NV; Zac Mainz and wife, Janelle of Fort Collins, CO; Kayla Carter and husband, James of Neosho, MO; Charles “Kevin” Hinson of Shreveport, LA; Julia Hinson of Phoenix, AZ; Jessica Hinson of Phoenix, AZ; Ashley Peters and husband, Jim Gascoigne of Philadelphia, MS; Amber Tess and husband, Casey of Philadelphia, MS; and her great grandchildren, Destiny Peters, Lilly Johnson, Patsy Johnson, Andy Johnson, Jr., Hailey Gascoigne; David, Catherine, Gabrielle, Vash, Levi, Annaliese, and Zane Hinson; Ruth, Isaac, Matteus, Joanna, Caleb, and Adah Desta; Rosalía and Lillian Means; Evan Mainz; Nile and Noah Hinson; Mark II, Ellie, and Emily Esparza; Isabelle and Julie Tess; Copeland Carter.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Marian was preceded in death by a sister Sue Wilson and a brother James Chapman. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Marian’s name for Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
