Marie’s Obituary Marie Meyer, age 90, of Elkhorn, formerly of Columbus died Monday, February 11, 2019 at Brookestone Meadows in Elkhorn. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Thursday, February 14, 2019 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Swanton officiating.

Visitation is on Wednesday from 5-7 pm with a 7:00 pm Vigil service, all at McKown Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Thursday from 8:30-10:00 am at Mckown Funeral Home. Interment is in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.

Marie Meyer was born May 24, 1928 in Crofton, NE, the eighth of nine children of John and Bertha (Gerlach) Reifenrath. Her family moved briefly to Madison, NE before settling in Columbus. She graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 1946 and went to work at First National Bank where she met her future husband, Julian Meyer.

They were married on April 5th, 1951 at St. Bonaventure Church. Marie was a hardworking, loving, and dedicated homemaker raising their 5 children. Marie was an excellent seamstress and always ensured her family had new holiday attire.

She continued this tradition with her grandchildren making them matching holiday pajamas. She was adventurous cook and was eager to try out new recipes when they frequently entertained. Marie looked forward to her 2 monthly Bridge Clubs with longtime friends.

She loved preparing creative themes for Formal and Holiday Dance Club parties they attended at the Elk’s. As the only one of her siblings who remained in Nebraska, Marie and Julian’s home hosted numerous family reunions. Family vacations included spending time with Marie’s siblings who lived on both coasts.

As her children married, Marie joyfully welcomed their spouses into the family. Later in life, Marie and Julian enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren across the country. After Julian’s passing, Marie relocated to Omaha where her youngest son, Jim, resides.

Jim has been a constant and loving companion during the past nine years keeping his mother engaged and connected with family. Marie is survived by: Daughter Tarris (Paul) Carter of Mesquite, TX -Grandson Alec (Esparanza) Carter of Mesquite, TX -Great Grandchildren Daniel and Evelyn Daughter Carolyn (Gerald) Morrison of Castle Rock, CO -Granddaughter Brooke (Matt) Sajovic of Denver, CO -Great Grandchildren Colton and Dane Son Robert Meyer of Chicago, IL -Granddaughter Althea Meyer of Caseyville, IL Daughter Barbara (Bob) Harrison of Gloucester, MA -Granddaughter Chloe Harrison of Boston, MA Son James Meyer of Omaha, NE Many nieces and Nephews She is preceded in death by: Husband Julian Meyer Parents John and Bertha Reifenrath Sisters: Alice Maguire, Ruth Ahalt, Irene Killduff, Helen Mills, and Harriet Thomas, Brothers Richard Reifenrath, Wilfred Reifenrath and Harold Reifenrath In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Help Medical Equipment (service in Omaha that provides medical equipment to those in need) at www. helpequipment.org at 1941 S 42nd St., Suite 200, Omaha, NE 68105.
