Obituary for Marilyn Owens (Martin) Gaffney — Marilyn Martin Owens, 80, of 318 Sycamore Street, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 2nd, 2018, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Carroll Owens and the daughter of the late Claude Lee and Lillie Wilkie Martin. Marilyn worked as a seamstress for 60 years, a lot of that at her sister’s business, Gloria’s Dry Cleaning.
She was a loving person who was known as “Maw-maw,” not just to her grandchildren, but also to their friends and many of her neighbors. Mrs. Owens also loved her dog, Kenny, who has stayed by her side for more than ten years. Surviving Mrs. Owens are two daughters, Cindy Powell and husband, Sammy Jr, and Michelle G. Kiehl and husband, John Sr., all of Gaffney; one sister, Claudia Combee and husband, Ricky, of Gaffney; six grandchildren, Trey Powell and wife, Laura, Renae Wright, James Tommy McGaha III and wife, Kasi, Alisha McGaha, John Kiehl II and wife, Ashley, and Adam Kiehl; nine great-grandchildren, Heidi Powell, Coy Powell, AJ Ellis, Andyn Ellis, Aneisha Ellis, Marli McGaha, JT McGaha IV, Briley Kiehl, Myles Kiehl, and Adelyn Kiehl; and a brother-in-law, Ricky Sellars.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by two sons, Harold Dean and Bobby Jean Martin, and four sisters, Betty Martin, Clara Vinesette, Barbara Martin, and Gloria Sellars. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Gordon Mortuary of Gaffney. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 am in the Gordon Mortuary of Gaffney Chapel with Rev.
Nick Vinesette officiating. Interment will follow at Asbury Baptist Church Cemetery. Ricky Combee, Tommy McGaha III, Trey Powell, Wayne Wright, Matt Stanford, and John Kiehl Sr. will serve as pallbearers.
