Marlys’ Obituary Marlys Kitzberger, age 84, of New Ulm passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Ridgeway on German in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Searles with Father Gerald Meidl celebrating the mass. Burial will take place in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH Chapel. Marlys is survived by her husband, Vernon; daughters, Sandra (Fred) Gareis, Julie (Jeff) Lilleodden, Ellen (Randy) Preisinger, Kathy (Scott) Hulke; sons, Vern J. (Pam) Kitzberger andRich (Holly) Kitzberger; grandchildren, Rachel (Justin) Hansen, Matt Kitzberger, Jenny (Scott) Kral, Justin Kitzberger, Rachelle Rathmann, MollyGareis (Zach Kaiser) , Jill Gareis, Andy (Shelly) Kitzberger, Scott Kitzberger, Jaime (Tim) Zander, Jacob Lilleodden, Kelsey Preisinger, Sarah Preisinger, Leah Preisinger, Megan Hulke andTravis Hulke. ; 6 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Kathy (Ricky) Rathmann; sisters-in-law, Ann Stevenson, Lois (Jerry) Murphy, Joann Odom(Larry) ; brothers-in-law, Duane Kitzberger and Melvin Kitzberger (Diane) and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son in infancy; son, Jeff Kitzberger; grandson, Jesse Kitzberger; brothers, Ronald and Kenneth Reinhart and her mother and father in-law, William and Cecelia Kitzberger; sisters-in-law, Irene Kitzberger, Arlene Kitzberger, and ArleneClyne.

Marlys Reinhart was born June 15, 1934 to Ireneaus “Sam” and Lucia (Zins) Reinhart in New Ulm. She was a 1952 graduate of Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm. On October 2, 1954, Marlys married Vernon A. Kitzberger at St. John’s Catholic Church in Searles.

They were blessed with 7 children whom together they raised on the family farm. Marlys worked as a secretary in the New Ulm Area Catholic School system for 33 years, 27 of those years at St. John’s Catholic School in Searles. She was like a “second mom” to all the kids that went through the Catholic school system.

She received the NUACS Distinguished Alumni Award in 2004. Marlys alsoenjoyed reading, gardening, mushroom hunting and especially playing cards with their many friends and neighbors. Vernon and Marlys lovedtraveling with their best friends, Bob and Electa Griebel, having many great times together.

But above all else, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren, attending their numerous activities, of which she was their biggest supporter. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Reflections unit at Ridgeway on German in New Ulm, for their wonderful care and compassion given to Marlys.
