Mary’s Obituary NICOLLET Mary Valen Giefer, age 72 of Nicollet died Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester after a short but hard fought battle with cancer. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Nicollet. Father Todd Petersen will celebrate the Mass, and burial will take place in the Church of the Visitation Cemetery in Swan Lake Township at a later date.

Visitation will be from 10-11 am on Tuesday at the church in Nicollet. To leave an online condolence for her family, or to sign the guestbook, go to: mvfh.org Mary is survived by her brother, Michael (Sheila) Giefer of St. Peter; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mary Valen Giefer was born November 25, 1946 in St. Paul and later adopted by Leonard and Kathryn (Burg) Giefer. She was a 1964 graduate of the Nicollet Public High School. Early in her life Mary worked for over 25 years with the Co-op Oil Association in Nicollet.

She later worked for over 11 years at the Nicollet Mart, and concluded her employment as the Assistant to the City Clerk of Nicollet. Besides her work, to relax Mary enjoyed challenging her mind with crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and cryptograms. She was a devout member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church of Nicollet.
