Daniel’s Obituary Daniel W. Johnson, age 60 of New Ulm died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at his home in New Ulm. Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette. Father Cornelius Ezeiloaku will celebrate the Mass, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-North Chapel in New Ulm, and continue from 10-11 am on Saturday at the church in Lafayette. To leave an online condolence for his family, or to sign the guestbook, go to: mvfh.org Dan is survived by his mother, LaVone Johnson; his wife, Sandy Johnson of Mankato; daughter, Amanda Johnson of Mankato; son, Robert Johnson of Mankato; sisters, Pam (Steve) Morson of Lafayette, Jackie (Tim) Wlasiuk of Gaylord; brother, Tim (Coreen) Johnson of Lafayette; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and care takers. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Clayton Johnson.
Daniel Wallace Johnson was born November 12, 1958 in Mankato to Wallace and LaVone (Lorentz) Johnson. Dan grew up on their family farm near Lafayette and was a 1977 Dan graduate from Winthrop High School. He later attended school at the Rochester Community College and eventually graduated with a degree in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota.
On November 23, 1992, Dan was united in marriage to Sandy Jensen in Blaine. This union blessed the couple with two children. Dan lived in a variety of locations around the state including Gaylord, Pennock, the Twin Cities, and Le Sueur.
He worked in a variety of careers as well including selling feed, hoof trimming, and was most recently working in maintenance at Davisco Foods in Le Sueur before his decline in health forced him to retire. Besides his work Dan had an assortment of hobbies that brought him great joy in life. From his childhood on, Dan had a love for all animals, but he particularly loved cows.
Many dedicated hours were spent in 4H caring for his prized show cattle. He also took tremendous pride in his cars, a favorite being his 76’ Mustang Cobra. To relax, he enjoyed spending time appreciating nature and especially loved time on the lake fishing, or working with his hands gardening.
Dan was a member of the Toastmasters club, a member of the Farm House Fraternity, and was also active in his churches in the past. Although Dan’s passing seems sudden and unexpected, many wonderful memories will forever stay in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Blessed be those memories.
