Marshall D. LaVine died at his home in Jerusalem, Israel, on February 5, 2019. He was the son of Sonia and Ted LaVine, born in Kansas City, KS on February 9, 1933. A lifelong resident of Kansas City, Marshall and his wife Sylvia moved in 2016 to Jerusalem to be with their daughter, Andi, and family there.

His younger daughter, Staci, lives with her family in Kansas City. In 1955, after graduation from the University of Missouri, where he met his wife, Sylvia Shear LaVine, he entered the Army, Following that he returned to Kansas City where he joined his family in operating LaVine’s Fabrics, which grew from one Kansas-side store to four before it closed in 1979, He was in several business ventures before becoming the owner of JJ’s Bar and Grill and later, additionally, JJ’s Other Place. A raconteur of the first order, he considered this last business venture “the most fun of his business life”.

Following retirement he volunteered as an associate teacher in the ESL program for adults though the Johnson County Community College. Loving this work, he also tutored English while in Israel. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, two daughters: Andi (David Arnovitz) and Staci (Joseph Parelman); eight grandchildren: Danielle (Jordan) Carr, Zachary Parelman and Jacob (Julia) Parelman.

Also, in Israel: Ariel (Noam) Markose, Hannah (Arie) Gellman, Dena (Ziv) Haltzband, Gabi (Noa) Arnovitz and Zev Arnovitz, and six great grandchildren: Adin, Shaked and Lielle Markose, Lavi and Geffin Gellmn and Oz Halsband.
