Martha C. Glesner age 96, of Sylvania,OH went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2018. Born August 21, 1922 to Frank and Gertrude (Kutz) Drabek in Toledo, OH, she was the eldest of 12 children. She attended St. Adelbert grade school and although she never graduated from St. Ursula Academy, that never stopped her from getting a job or teaching her family the value of hard work.
She often wondered what she would have done had she gotten her degree and gone on to college, but we know she would have made an excellent nurse. She selflessly and compassionately cared for many family members and friends over her long life. She married Albin S. Glesner in 1941 who preceded her in death.
Unto this union, four daughters were born. She cherished her family and one of her greatest heart breaks in life was the loss of her daughter Kathleen Mary at the age of 14. Over the years, she held several jobs from factory work to working in the deli at The Andersons in Maumee.
Upon her retirement from the Catholic Cemeteries, she became quickly bored and landed what she considered to be the best job ever, working at Amber Waves Bread Company in Sylvania, she loved her carbs! She enjoyed polka music, polish hymns, dancing, reading, baking coffee cake for church festivals and a good game of Kings in the Corner. She also enjoyed making chemo/premie caps which she donated to hospitals.
She leaves to cherish her memory – daughters Carol (Ed) Elliott, Cindy (George Wells) Zimmel, and Beth (Larry) Armstrong. Grandchildren Marc (Kim) Kreuz, Kellie (Jeff) Worley, Cait and Jared Zimmel, Sara (Paul) Webb and Emily Armstrong. Brother Tom (Joyce) Drabek as well as a host of beloved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her four-legged buddy, Samson.
Besides her husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Irene and Julie Drabek, Dorothy Sieja, Virginia Topolewski, Geraldine Drabek, and brothers Frank, Raymond, Charles, Roland, and John. Family and friends may visit on Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 4:30 p.m., at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 with the Funeral Mass at St. Hyacinth Church at 10:30 a.m. where family and friends may visit after 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
