Martha Sturdivant, age 87, of Somerville, TN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Saint Francis Hospital in Bartlett, TN. Martha was born in Red Bay, Alabama, to Don and Visey Creekmore Wright on February 3, 1932. She married Joe Sturdivant on November 12, 1948, and they were blessed with two children.

She was a longtime, faithful member of Feathers Chapel Baptist Church, and served as the youth Sunday School teacher for many years. She retired after working for 25 years at Union Planters Bank in Memphis, TN. She was a member of the Oakland Homemaker’s Club of Oakland, TN, where she acted as treasurer, and was also a member of the CBS Bible Study Group of Somerville, TN.

She loved her family, friends and neighbors very much, and enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with them. She also loved to do crafts, such as crochet, cross-stitching, embroidery and quilting. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, and with Joe in the garden.

Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Joseph Sturdivant; parents, Don and Visey Wright; beloved son, Jerry Sturdivant (Lisa); daughter Jinny Sturdivant) Hubbard; brother, Benard Wright; and great-granddaughter, Marilyn Clark. Martha is survived by her sister, Caroline Allen (Ray) of Martin, TN; brothers, Jon Wright (Rosa) of Union City, TN and Donnie Wright of Chicago, IL; grandchildren: Jessica Lentz (Jerry), Jeremy Sturdivant (Savannah), Jill Schneider (Joe), Jason Hubbard (Ashlie); and great-grandchildren: Dora Sturdivant, Rachael Sturdivant, Erin Palmer, Austin Hubbard, Tyler Hubbard and Emma Hubbard. Pallbearers will be Austin Hubbard, Tyler Hubbard, Wes Harville, Shaw Zada, Rob Wagner and Les Hamilton.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park – East, 2440 Whitten Rd, Memphis, TN 38133. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Forest Hill East Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her honor to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, or to Fayette Cares in Somerville, TN.
