Marthelly Luc, Sr. passed away on February 18, 2019 at the age of 85. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, he died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Marthelly was born and raised in Port-au- Prince, Haiti.

After earning a degree in accounting, he worked in the import and export department of a customs house. He married the love of his life, Louisanne, in 1962. He emigrated to the United States one year later where he began his family.

Marthelly worked as a carpenter (until he fell off a scaffolding and decided that wasn’t for him), an insurance salesman, realtor and auto worker. While working these jobs, he also did taxes for community members. He then opened Luc’s Variety Shoppe and eventually, Luc’s Liquors which he owned for 25 years.

When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, playing cards and dominoes. He also enjoyed dancing and listening to music. His true passion was traveling with family and friends to the Caribbean, Europe, the Mediterranean and South America.

The highlight of his travels was his trip to Rome to see Pope Benedict VI. He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Francesca and Fritz Luc. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Louisanne, along with four children; Jean- Bernard Luc, Marjorie Cobb, Marthelly Luc Jr. and Michele Luc as well as his son-in- law, Vernon Cobb Sr. and daughter-in-law, Dawn Luc.

He will be fondly remembered by his sister, Frida Austin, his grandchildren, Courtney Luc, Lawrence Luc, Tinia Luc, Vernon Cobb Jr., Mario Sturgis and great grandchildren, Jamari Sturgis and Jada Sturgis. His god-daughter, Gina Gratia; his dear brothers and sisters-in-law, countless nieces, nephews and cousins also are left to mourn his passing. Visiting Friday March 1st 4:00- 7:00 pm at the Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home in Linden, 2124 East Saint George Ave.

. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday March 2nd , 2019. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Joseph Carpenter Church at 10:00 am, followed by interment at Rosedale Cemetery.
