Martin Ross Leffew July 16, 1957 – January 02, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Martin Ross Leffew, 61, formerly of Winfield, passed away Wednesday morning, January 2, 2019 at his home in Haysville, Kansas. Born July 16, 1957 in Winfield, he was the son of Harold and Florence (Knuckey) Leffew. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1974.

He was united in marriage to Jeannie Johnson on March 6, 1981 at the Christian Church in Oxford, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Oxford. Martin worked as a truck driver for Smith Trucking out of Burden and later worked as a driver for Trico.

He was very involved in youth sports while in Oxford, and was the founder of the AYSO, which was the first youth soccer association in Oxford. In 1992, the family moved to Winfield where Martin continued to be very active in youth sports, coaching soccer, baseball, softball, as well as umpiring. He began his career with Roger Biby doing mason and carpentry work.

Martin and Jeannie had four children. They later divorced. In addition to coaching, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.

He also enjoyed go-kart racing, and especially loved spending time with his family. His family includes his son Josh Leffew of Haysville; his daughter Alicia Leffew of Haysville; his five siblings, Harold Joe Clayton Leffew, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Winfield; Darrell Eugene Leffew and wife, Andrea of Wichita; Alan Leffew of Wichita; Laura Arlene Williams and husband, David of Winfield; Russell Lee Leffew and wife, Joleigh of Winfield; his grandchildren, Jaidyn Leffew, Adian Leffew, Kristina Starlin, Jace Herbers, Darian Weishaar; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Kristina and Vanessa Leffew, and a sister, Alice Leffew.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials have been established in Martin’s name for the American Cancer Society and to defray funeral expenses.
