Martin Walter Williams (also known as “Packie” by his grandchildren), born August 11, 1942, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on September 18, 2018. Marty was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Mary Rita and Bernard Williams. Marty was the oldest of his five siblings, Mary Alice (Jim) Hoffman, Jack (Julie) Williams, Patricia Williams and Katie (Joe) Wernert.

Marty attended the University of Detroit where he met his one true love, Mary Helen.
They married on August 8, 1964. Marty attended the University of Toledo Law School at night while working during the day and raising four of his five children before he graduated in 1969. Marty started his 48 year law career in Toledo Ohio and worked as a partner with Williams, DeClark, Tuschman until he retired earlier this year.
Marty worked very hard to develop his law practice and truly enjoyed going to work every day. Marty was admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio as well as before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth District, The United States District Courts for the Northern District of Ohio, Southern District of Ohio, Eastern District of Michigan and the Supreme Court of Ohio. He was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta, Lucas County Bar Association, Toledo Bar Association (Chairman of the Common Pleas Court Committee), Ohio State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Ohio Association for Justice (where he served as Past-President, 1992-1993, Past Governor and Trustee, 1977), American Judicature Society, Panel of Arbitrators – American Arbitration Association, Morrison R. Waite Chapter of the American Inns of Court, and International Society of Barristers (proudly serving as Fellow and Board Member).
Marty and Mary Helen travelled extensively throughout their marriage. Some of Marty’s favorite places to visit were Hawaii, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Prague, Africa and travelling to the Holy Land which included being present in Rome when the new Pope was elected. Marty and Mary Helen’s last trip was in October of 2017 to Prague and Amsterdam.
Marty also enjoyed being at the lake, playing golf, videoing his grandchildren and telling stories. Marty enjoyed “singing” Danny Boy at all of the family weddings and celebrating Easter in St. Augustine, Florida with his whole family. Marty is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Helen Williams; children Lisa (Peter) DeClark, John (Colleen) Williams, Pat (Raeanne) Williams, Tom (Jennifer) Williams and Laurie (Patrick) Hylant.
Marty is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Justin (Tara) Williams, Olivia DeClark, Britney Williams, Hadley Williams, Lauren DeClark, Rylee Williams, Brendan Williams, Brady Williams, William Hylant, Annie DeClark, Paddy Williams, Teddy Hylant, Lucy Hylant and Emily Martin Hylant. Marty had one great-grandchild, Addison Lynn. Marty was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Deborah Williams and grandchild, Joshua Williams.
Visitation will be Friday, September 21, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Historic Church, 130 Avondale, Toledo, Ohio.
