Marva Janell Aimes was born on December 14, 1951, in Lubbock, Texas. Surrounded by her family, she transitioned to eternity on October 8, 2018, in Garland, Texas, at age 66. Marva was brilliant and always had a love for learning.

Marva graduated in 1969 from Dunbar High School in Lubbock, Texas. She went on to attend Oral Roberts University and Southern Methodist University. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree in Management.

Affectionately regarded as “Maw Maw” by her grandchildren, Marva had an exemplary character. After retiring in 2014 as Director of Career Services at Southern Methodist University, Marva continued to serve as a volunteer with Meal on Wheels, Soul Talk, and various women’s ministries. Her dearest passion was helping women in transition.

She founded a non-profit organization, Women in Transition, to fulfill her passion for helping women. God-fearing, beautiful, strong, and determined, Marva had a remarkably strong will. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marva was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish precious memories include her loving husband, Wayne Aimes; son, Rodrick McGrew and his wife, Dedra; son, John McGrew; daughter, Angie Mitchell and her husband, Brian; grandchildren: Rodrick McGrew, Jr. and his wife, Hannah, Brandi McGrew, Ryan McGrew, Shoundra McGrew, Jayden McGrew, Jasmine McGrew, Garod McGrew, Amaree McGrew, Ebony McGrew, Trinity Mitchell, Zachary Mitchell, and Malachi Mitchell; great-grandchildren: Amaya McGrew, Aubree Shepard, Ayden Shepard, Rodrick McGrew III, Nova Rae Karson Valliant, and Nadia Elise Barlow; the father of her children, Johnny McGrew; siblings: Donna Kay Bailey-Lee and her husband, Garnett, Dave Bailey III and his wife, Jerri, Sandra Sheryl Bailey, Glenda S. Bailey, Leonard W. Bailey and his wife, Debra, and Belva G. Bailey-Green and her husband, Sammy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
