Mary Alice Sledge July 23, 1920 – March 29, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Mary Alice Terry Sledge of Calhoun City passed from this life at the young age of 98 on March 29,2019 at Baptist-Calhoun Health Services in Calhoun City. Mrs.Sledge was born in Big Creek on July 23,1920 to the late Robert Richmon Terry and Lubie Estell Carter. Mary Alice attended Wood Jr College and furthered her education At Mississippi University for Women where she obtained a degree in Education.

She molded young minds for many years as a school teacher. A member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church she placed her faith in Jesus Christ.

Mrs.Sledge not only enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation from a pond where she could be found fishing, but also from the delicate beauty of a garden. When she was not enjoying the outdoors or admiring her grandchildren you could find her turning the crisp pages of a book. Mary Alice leaves behind her husband Mr. Tommie Gwin Sledge of Calhoun City,Mississippi.

One daughter Carolyn (Charles) Smith of Collierville, Tennessee. One son Terry (Zhanna) Sledge of Birmingham, Alabama. One brother Charles Terry of Big Creek, Mississippi.

Five Grandchildren Chris Smith, Jenifer Smith , Johnathan Sledge, Tommy Sledge, and Valarie Waskey. She was preceded in death by one infant son Lester Sledge. Five sisters Leavy Stone, Margaret Boland, Jimmie Shenep, Johnnie Stribling, and Kate Webb.

Two Brothers Thadeous Terry, and Edward Terry. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m.- 2:00p.m. on Monday April 1,2019 with a celebration of Mary Alice’s life beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Rev.

Thomas Murphy will deliver words of comfort to the friends and family. Pallbearers will be Brian Allen ,Robert Boland, Johnathan Sledge, Tommy Sledge, William Terry , and Chris Smith. Following the celebration of life on Monday afternoon Mrs.Sledge will be laid to rest at the peaceful Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.
