Funeral services for Mary Ann Oetken, 93, of Norfolk will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 2, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, Norfolk: Reverend Brian Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery, Emerson. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Home for Funerals, Norfolk Avenue Location.

Mary Ann died Monday, October 29, 2018 at Countryside Home, Madison Mary Ann Oetken was born on March 28, 1925 at Thurston, NE to Jerry & Mary (Paulsen) Pallas. She was baptized & confirmed in the John Huss Presbyterian Church in Thurston. She was raised on the family farm near Emerson & attended District 61, Thurston County country school through the eighth grade, then helped at home taking care of younger siblings.

She was united in marriage to Herman Oetken on December 25, 1942 at Herman’s parents farm near Emerson. They lived in Emerson & then resided in Wayne for 39 years before moving to Norfolk in 2007. While living in Wayne she was employed for several years at Arnies’s Grocery and also helped the elderly in their homes.

Mary Ann was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wayne for many years and was currently a member of First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. She was a 4-H leader at one time along with being an “Avon Lady”. Mary Ann & Herman were very active in the Wayne Food Pantry & the Coat Closet at their church in Wayne.

Mary Ann enjoyed embroidery work, giving many handmade items as gifts. She also enjoyed traveling and gardening. Entertaining family and friends at a meal in her home gave her lots of enjoyment.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen & Larry Koehlmoos of Norfolk; son, Bill & Connie of Edgewood, MD; five grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren, sister Helen Oetken of Madison, SD, sisters-in-law, Wilma Pallas of Emerson and Loretta Pallas of Lincoln and a special friend Ruth Simpkin of Wakefield.
