Obituary for Mary Evelyn DeMoss Burrows Jackson Mary Evelyn DeMoss Burrows Jackson, 82, of Erie Community, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born June 9, 1936 in Nutter Fort, a daughter of the late Samuel Everett and Virginia Dare Summers DeMoss. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert R. Burrows in 1964 and her second husband, Myron “Squeak” Jackson in January of this year.

She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Simons and her husband David of Clarksburg; her sons, Bobby Jackson of FL; and Michael Robert Jackson and his companion Cassy Burr of Erie Community; her grandchildren, Stacey Markley and her husband Ryan of Fairmont; David Kyle Simons and his wife Michelle of Erie Community; and Ally Shingleton and her husband Charles of West Milford; her great-grandchildren, Dean Cole Shingleton and one on the way, expected in April. Also surviving are her brothers, Everett Ray DeMoss and his wife Karen of Spencer; and Rev. James William DeMoss and his wife Mary of Huntington; as well as several nieces and nephews and her “fur grandbabies”.

Mary was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lee Summers. Mary was a Maidenform Girl from the time of her graduation from Roosevelt – Wilson High School in 1954 until 1978. She then attended a business college and worked as a secretary for Young and Stout Wholesale Meats and Provisions.

In 1981 she began driving school bus for the Harrison County Board of Education. And in 1990, Mary became a school secretary from which she retired in 2005. Mary was a member of the Spelter Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Clarksburg, as well as the Harrison County Senior Citizens satellite in Spelter.

Mary enjoyed talking on the phone, reading the newspaper, and serving her community. She was Methodist by faith. The family will receive friends at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Tuesday from 2-8 pm.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 26th at 11:00 am with Pastor Jimmy Glaspell officiating. Interment will follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery. Online condolences can be extended to the family at www.
