Obituary for Mary Lois Nettles Mary Lois Nettles, 76, of Palatka, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at her home following a recent hospital stay. She was a resident of Putnam County for 50 years. She was born in Nicholls, GA to Prince and Ada Lee and graduated high school there.

She then moved to Jacksonville where she met and married Thomas T. Nettles on March 11, 1961 and had 2 daughters, Veronica and Tammy. Mary worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a billing supervisor for 14 years and later she and her husband, Thomas, were the owners of Dunn’s Creek Fishing Resort for 42 years. When Thomas died in 2011 their daughter, Veronica, ran the resort for 4 years.

Then the FDOT needed the land for the new lanes of the Dunn’s Creek Bridge, so Veronica completed a deal with FDOT and found a new home for Mary in Palatka moving her there in December of 2014. After she quit working, she spent her time shopping and going to the gym 4 days a week for 30 years. She also enjoyed traveling all over and playing the slot machines in Biloxi, MS.

She also looked forward to the Big Fish Fry during the summer months at the resort with Thomas and their customers. Mary was of the Baptist faith and attended many churches in her lifetime. However, the last couple of years her health declined, and she settled for watching church services on TV.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very loving and caring person. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas T. Nettles, parents, Prince and Ada Lee, sisters, Geraldine and Christine, brother, J.V. Lee and son-in-law, Matt Mason.

Mason of Palatka, brothers, Albert, Donnie, Carlis and Virgil Lee, grandson, Chase Mason, step-grandson, Joshua Walker (Katie) and great-grandchildren, Madison, Hayden and Lennox Walker. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Johnson-Overturf Interlachen Chapel with Bro. Ricky Bybee officiating.
