Mary Margaret Markey (Henry) Age 99 Mary Margaret Markey passed away peacefully at home on April 8th 2018 following a long illness. She was born to Joseph and Mary Henry on November 15th 1918, in Dumbarton, Scotland. She immigrated to the United States in 1948 and took up residency in Morristown, New Jersey where she met and married Edward George Markey of Morristown, New Jersey.

She is survived by her son Thomas Francis Markey and wife Patricia Ann (Flynn) Markey with whom she… Read More » lived, her three grandchildren Thomas Francis Markey Jr. and wife Corinne, Sean Patrick Markey and wife Colleen, and in Mary’s own words “The daughter she never had” her grandaughter Colleen Patricia Markey. She is also survived by her five great grandchildren, Patrick James Markey, Maili Lynn Markey, Ryann Lynn Markey, Piper Mary Markey, and Thomas Francis Markey III. She is also survived by her brother Peter Henry of Long Island, NY.

She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her loving husband Edward George Markey (February 17th 2001), her parents Joseph and Mary Henry, her brothers John and Lawrence Henry, and her sisters Rose Goosney and Elizabeth Clifford. She was employed by Union Carbide and the Tetley Tea Company and after she retired from those facilities she kept herself busy as a lunch lady for the Morris School District.

She was extremely proud of her Irish Heritage which included making countless amounts of Irish Soda Bread every St. Patricks Day for friends and family. She enjoyed crocheting which in turn produced countless amounts of blankets for those close to her. After the passing of her husband, she lived the rest of her years enjoying her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was also very attatched to her two family dogs, Jake and Quinn. She would love to tell anybody that would listen about her time in Scotland while enjoying numerous cups of tea. She was thankful she had the opportunity to instill family values upon the generations beneath her.

She will be deeply missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, Morristown on Friday at 10:00AM. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
