Mary Y. Lester of Tarrytown and former longtime resident of Thornwood died May 12, 2018 at Rosary Hill Home. She was 85. Born in Tarrytown on January 17, 1933, she was she daughter of Joseph and Rose Kurina Yarabek.

Mary was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church in North Tarrytown which is where she married her husband John J. Lester. Mary was always very active working in various companies over the years. Her last job was at Phelps Memorial Hospital.

She was an active parishioner of Transfiguration Church and a member of the Transfiguration Seniors. She was also a member of the Tarrytown Seniors and the Neighborhood House. Mary was also a board member of the Continental Manor.

Mary is survived by her loving children John J. (Catherine) Lester of New York and Roseann (David) Peterson of California. She was the loving grandmother of 7 and great grandmother of 2. Also surviving is her brother John Yarabek of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband who predeceased her in 1985, she was also predeceased by her son David P. Lester, her sisters Rose Fahey and Anna Matthews as well as her brothers Joseph and Anthony Yarabek. Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9PM. Her Funeral Mass will be on Friday at Transfiguration Church at 10:30.
