Services for Mrs. Maryan Smith Harris will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Northview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until service hour at Parrish Hall at Christ Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Harris was born in Dublin and was the daughter of the late Charles Manly and Annie Simons Smith. She attended Dublin High School and graduated from Wesleyan College, Macon, GA, with an A.B. Degree in English and Speech. In later years, she attended the University of Louisville, Louisville, KY.

and earned a MSSW in Medical Social Work and was elected to PHI KAPPA PHI Honor Society. After teaching for several years, Mrs. Harris enlisted for Officer Training in the Waves during the Second World War. She served two years and ten months before receiving an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Lt.

(j.g.). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Joseph Harris, Jr., and dear sister, Dottie, (Mrs. Innes Mahon). Mrs. Harris was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry, was a Layreader, a member of The Altar Guild, The Episcopal Church Women, and The Daughters of the King.

She was a former member of the Woman’s Study Club, Laurens County Historical Society, and the Dublin/Laurens Arts Counsel. She was also a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Regent of Great Valley Chapter, Paoli, PA. After returning to Dublin in 1974, she transferred her membership to The John Laurens Chapter and was Registrar and Historian for several years.

Survivors include a son, John Kenneth Harris and a daughter-in-law, Susan; two granddaughters, Keighley Harris and Tracey (Mike) Mangold; niece, Deedee (Mrs. Tommy Jordan); two great nieces and two nephews.
