Obituary for Mary Fira Mary Fira, age 77, of Johnson, Kansas, died Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born June 8, 1941, in Jourdanton, Texas, the daughter of Andres and Franchita (Olibera) Corella. Mary grew up in Texas.

She married Fidencio V. (Fred) Fira on March 2, 1958, and they moved to Johnson in 1963. Mary enjoyed being a farm wife and driving truck during silage harvest and sugar beet campaign. She and her husband enjoyed attending the horse races.

Mary loved being outdoors, tending her flower garden, cooking, embroidering, visiting with friends, and spending time with her grandkids. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Johnson. She is survived by son, Andy Fira of Great Bend, Kansas; daughters, Alice Gonzales of Ulysses, Kansas, and Mary Ann Fira of Espanola, New Mexico; step-son, Henry Fira of Corpus Christi, Texas; step-daughters, Ofelia Elliott of Ohio, Celia Fira and Mary Alice Fira both of Sinton, Texas; brother, George Corella; sister, Eva Corella; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Allison Griffith, Crystal St. Amant, Pablo Gonzales, Jr., Ivan Fira, and Cassie Fira; and four great-grandchildren, Emma Marie St. Amant, Xander, Zadyn, and Xzavier Griffith.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred; sons, Fidencio Fira, Jr., and George Fira; and sister, Daria Rodriguez. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Reverend Peter Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas.

Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, October 1, 2018, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson. Memorial contributions may be given to Mary Fira Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
