Obituary for Ruth Richards Ruth D. Richards, 86, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born March 11, 1932 in Garden City the daughter of Ira Boyd & Grace May (Nunn) Rundell. Ruth has been a lifetime Finney County resident.

She attended New Hope Elementary School South of Pierceville. She then attended Pierceville schools and graduated from Pierceville High School in 1949. On September 5, 1953, she married Harvey A. Richards in Raton, New Mexico.

Ruth worked as a stenographer for a few years for Hutchison, Vance, Hope, & Fleming Law Firm and has been a farm wife since. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Garden City; a Charter member of Plymell Union Church where she was the 1st woman to serve on the church Board of Directors and also led a Bible study group. She was also a member of the Finney County Historical Society where she served as secretary of the board for 20 years; past president of the Garden City Church Women United; and in 1998 was awarded Master Farm Homemaker by KSU Extension.

Ruth was a historian who enjoyed record keeping, photography, KU Basketball, and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter Carol & husband Mike Deaver of Garden City, Kansas; two Grandchildren Lauren & husband Adam Lauridsen of Lawrence, Kansas and Kyle & wife Aleasha Deaver of Garden City; and a Great-Granddaughter Harper Deaver of Garden City. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Harvey who died on October 6, 2003.

She is also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Boyd Rundell and Gale Rundell; and two sisters Thelma Cronin and Margaret Lightner. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Presbyterian Church in Garden City with Pastor Denise Pass officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, and the family will be at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday to visit with friends. The family suggests memorials given to the Finney County Historical Society or to the Presbyterian Church both in care of the funeral home.
