Obituary for Mary Jones Mary Catherine Murrell Jones, age 97, of 2601 Vassar Street, Low Moor, Virginia died Thursday, January 10, 2019 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany, in Low Moor. Mary was born October 20, 1921 in Low Moor to the late Henry and Ida Bolden Murrell. She was active in civil work for the War Effort in World War II, and was a Nurses Aid for the former Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital in Clifton Forge.

She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, where she served as Deaconess, and was a former Superintendent of Sunday Schools and Church Clerk. She was also a longtime clerk for the Berean Valley Baptist Association.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard William Jones, Sr.; two sons, Stewart Edward Jones and Lee L. Goode; three brothers; and three sisters. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central and Western Virginia Chapter, 355 Rio Road West Suite 102, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
