Obituary for Matthew T. Sullivan New Hartford – Matthew T. Sullivan passed away at home after a cardiac event on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Matt was born on August 6, 1968 in Utica, to Barbara Cook LaFluer and Maurice “Tim” Sullivan. He grew up in the town of Trenton and Barneveld and attended Holland Patent High School, where he was an accomplished athlete excelling in soccer, cross country and cross country skiing.

Matt was proud to have run the Boilermaker 33 years in a row. He graduated from Herkimer County Community College and attended SUNY ESF. Matt followed in his father’s footsteps by serving as a New York State Trooper, retiring in 2014 as an Investigator.

Matt was an EMT and held a certificate in firefighter training. Matt was very community oriented. He served as President of the Remsen Volunteer Fire Company, AYSO Soccer Coach, Past President of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Justin F. Kelly Division, Ancient Order of Hibernians John C. Devereux Division #1 and was on the ski patrol at Woods Valley Ski Area.

Matt loved his Irish lineage, heritage and community. He was the founder of the Great American Irish Festival bringing Irish music and culture to the area. This legacy will be enjoyed through the Festival and the Irish Cultural Center for years to come.

Matt’s greatest accomplishments were his three daughters, Laken, Danielle and Lindsay. Matt is survived by his daughters, Laken Sullivan (Joe Drago), Danielle Sullivan, Lindsay Sullivan and their mother, Angel Sullivan; significant other, Sharon Kane Zohne and her son, Connor. He is also survived by his mother, Barbara LaFluer and brothers, Andrew Sullivan (Emily), Michael Sullivan (Karin) and Jason Atkinson.

In addition, Matt is loved and will be remembered and missed by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Matt was preceded in death by his father Maurice “Tim” Sullivan, both his maternal and paternal grandparents and his best friend and companion, Murphy the Wonder Dog. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd.

, Utica. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Mt.

Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in Matt’s name may be made to Mother Marianne’s West Side Kitchen (www. westsidekitchen.org).
