February 26, 1968 – June 17, 2018 Matthew Allen Hanigan passed away in his home in Corvallis on June 17th, 2018 of liver failure. Matt was born in Eugene, Oregon on February 26th, 1968 to Robert E. Hanigan and Jacqueline Hanigan. Matt grew up in Eugene, graduating from North Eugene High School in 1986 and then attended Oregon State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

As a youth, Matt was fun loving and competitive. He loved to play games of all sorts and enjoyed surrounding himself with people who also had a competitive spirit. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit and was constantly considering new business opportunities.

Matt enjoyed outdoor activities including mountain biking and golf. He also spent time hunting and fishing with his father and friends. After college, Matt worked in various organizations from Kennewick, WA, Portland, OR and Salem, OR primarily as a database specialist.

At the age of 25, Matt was diagnosed with a severe mental illness which challenged him for the rest of his life. Matt continued to work successfully until his mid-30’s with supportive management and a supportive family, but eventually the chronic mental illness made it too difficult. Matt lived with both his parents in Albany until his father’s passing in 2004 and then lived with his mother until her passing in 2016.

In the past two years, Matt lived on his own in Corvallis and was supported by his three sisters, Lisa Shogren of Albany, Colleen Llewellyn of Corvallis, and Kathleen Brandt of Eugene. He is survived by his sisters and 6 nieces and nephews. Matt’s life will be celebrated by his sisters and his extended family at 1pm, Wednesday, June 27th at Willamette Memorial Park, 2640 Old Salem Rd.
