Obituary for Maxine Carr Maxine Carr Our beloved mother, grandmother and sister Maxine Carr of Waxhaw, North Carolina and formerly of Elk Run Heights, Iowa passed away on July 17, 2018. She was passionate about God, a dedicated homemaker and mother who was proud of her daughter Susan and sons Thomas and Daniel. Her greatest joy in life was her family and church.

Maxine was born on March 30, 1928 to her parents Marshall E. and Della M. Cross in Waterloo, Iowa. She grew up in downtown Waterloo and met the love of her life Denver Carr after graduating from high school. They were married on December 24, 1946 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

They were also lifelong members of the Grace Baptist Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Denver and Maxine moved to Waxhaw to be closer to their daughter Susan and her family in November 2006 before Denver’s passing on December 8, 2008. Maxine is preceded in death by her husband Denver Carr; daughter Susan Hanson; brothers Eugene L. Cross, Harold E. Cross, Mervill A. Cross and Ivan Cross; and sisters Madeline Tolley, Luella M. Burgmeier and Georgia M. Nickerson.

She is survived by her son Thomas Carr, Altamonte Springs, FL; son Daniel Carr, Orlando, FL; daughter-in-law Lynne Carr, Altamonte Springs, FL; daughter-in-law Sandra Carr, Orlando, FL; son-in-law Dennis Hanson, Waxhaw, N.C.; grandson Jason Hanson and wife Betsy Vance Hanson, Waxhaw, N.C.; grandson Christopher Hanson and wife Lillion Hanson, Waxhaw, N.C.; grandson Jeremiah Hanson, Boone, N.C.; grandson David Hanson, Waxhaw, N.C.; granddaughter Michelle Green, Altamonte Springs, FL; great granddaughter Sydney Larsen, Altamonte Springs, FL; brother Al Cross, Elk Run Heights, Iowa; sister-in-law Bonnie Cross, Elk Run Heights, Iowa; brother Chuck Cross, Waterloo, Iowa; sister-in-law Kay Cross, Waterloo, Iowa; sister Shirley Merritt, Dysart, Iowa; and brother-in-law Delbert Merritt, Dysart, Iowa. A private service will be held at the Heritage Weddington/Matthews Chapel in Matthews, North Carolina.
