Maxine’s Obituary Maxine Marie (Stern) Christensen peacefully went to join her Savior on May 10, 2019, at the Edgewood Healthcare Home, Sioux Falls, SD. Maxine was the daughter of Robert and Martha (Tornow) Stern, born September 29, 1932, in rural Freeman, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in her Christian faith at Unity Lutheran Church, rural Freeman.

She completed grade school at the country school near her farm home. She graduated from Freeman High School. In November of 1951 she was united in marriage to Donald E Christensen.

They resided on farms in rural Clayton and rural Freeman. This union was blessed with a son and two daughters. She attended Freeman Junior College and Augustana College in Sioux Falls and taught in country school.

Later on in her career she trained to be a nursing home administrator and she was an administrator in both Parker and Menno, SD. After a fire at their farm near Turkey Ridge, she resided in Viborg until being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and moving to Sioux Falls. Maxine’s memory is cherished by her two daughters Diane (Richard) Wirth in Hurley and Dawn (Sam) Makram in Sioux Falls; her sister Evelyn (Gary) Walker near Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren-Jason (Erica) and Brian (Mindy) Wirth and Mason and Samantha Makram; and three great-grandchildren-Addison and Connor Lafontaine and Grant Wirth.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don in 2005, her son David in 2013, her father Robert in 1965, her mother Martha in 1995, and her brothers-LeRoy Stern in 2011 and Dennis Stern in 2012. Maxine’s cremains will be buried with her husband Donald and her son David at the cemetery near Salem Lutheran Church in rural Freeman where she was an active member for many years. Maxine always will be remembered for being a devout Christian and her ever-present smile.

She will be missed by all who were ever in her presence.
